Olmstead Report Gives States Failing Grades

The National Association of Protection and Advocacy Systems (NAPAS) issued a report on how well states are complying with the mandates of the landmark Supreme Court ruling in the case of Olmstead vs. L.  C. on July 25. In the wake of the Court’s decision the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued guidance to the states urging that they develop a plan for compliance that follows certain key principles.

DOL  Contracts With DBTAC 

The Department of Labor has contracted with the Disability & Business Technical Assistance Centers to provide training for One Stop Job Centers in meeting the non-discrimination mandate of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

Access Board Updates

The Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board better known as the Access Board is in the process of writing guidelines for accessibility in several areas that have not been addressed in the past or that need further clarification.

NCD Issues ADA Enforcement Report

The National Council on Disability (NCD) released a report on the status of ADA enforcement 10 years after enactment of the civil rights law. The NCD acknowledges that the ADA has taken the issue of disability rights to mainstream America by bringing the issues of discrimination and exclusion to the attention of the general public.

I’m writing this letter to acknowledge the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26th, 2000. The Americans with Disabilities Act is civil rights legislation that promotes integration, equal opportunity and inclusion for persons with disabilities signed by President Bush.
